Lodge History

The consecration of Ceramic Lodge No 3827 took place in the King’s Hall, Stoke on Trent on Saturday 19th January 1918at 2.30pm.

Amongst the three hundred and thirty two present were The Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master Colonel G. Walton Walker P.G.D. twelve Officers of Grand Lodge, twelve Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge and fifty Past Masters of Provincial Grand Lodge.

The Ceremony was conducted by the Grand Secretary W bro P.Colville Smith M.A.

After the Lodge had been opened, the Consecrating Officer addressed the Brethren upon the motive of the meeting and during the course of his address observed that:

“the founders of the lodge had chosen a name that would commend itself to every Freemason in this famous district so celebrated as the centre of the potter’s aft which was of such great antiquity that from it one could learn to read something of the history of the world”.

The Worshipful Master referred to the Colliery disaster, during the meeting, which had recently occurred at the “Minnie Pit” in the districtin which a large number of lives had been lost and suggested that a collection be made in aid of the fun now being raised for the sufferers. The collection raised £25.

The first festive board was held and attended by on 150 of those actually present at the Consecration. The Banquet cost a princely sum of 7/6d per person. Thats 37.5pence in todays money.
